I used to have a three minute long polka song as the welcome message on my answering machine, figuring anyone who really, really wanted to leave a message would sit through the whole three minutes. Note to those born after the Reagan administration: an answering machine was a device that answered your phone when you couldn't and recorded messages for you, just like voice mail (but not really).
